Description:

THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED AT THE NATIONAL FOREST OFFICE, CEDAR CITY, UT

Webmaster may telework from home or other office.

Start Date: April 5th, 2017

End Date: October 15th, 2017 or until allotted funds are exhausted

Overview and Duties:  

Monitors and ensures the operability of local internet and intranet services that provide customers with access to applications and data. Assists in establishing design, development, testing, implementation, and management of internal and external websites according to Forest Service guidelines, policies, and principles. Reviews, tests, and implements new web pages on Forest Service web sites. Tests web pages to identify broken links. Implements new services, pulls and analyzes site analytical data, troubleshoots problems, and identifies trends that may require actions such as removal of information from sites with little to no traffic.

Ensures that information security and information assurance policies, principles and practices are considered and complied with in the delivery of information technology services. Ensures section 508 accessibility compliance for internal and external web content.

Maintains information residing in back end web databases such as photos, videos, graphics, documents, and web content.

Designs and develops multimedia based information such as web graphics and content for internal and external websites. Works with unit staffs to review and recommend design options, functionality, and programming needs. Designs web interfaces; develops layout design and concept; selects and secures appropriate materials to be used on the web; writes and maintains web code such as HTML, PHP, and JavaScript; maintains staff web pages; ensures consistency, accuracy, and compliance with required standards. Edits and manipulates photos and graphics for use on the websites.

Keeps current with trends and technology shifts related to web services.

Performs other duties as assigned.

This is a part time flex schedule position and only funded for 15 hours per week maximum.

Housing is not provided but the IIC will work with you to help research rental options in the area.

Qualifications

The preferred candidate is a highly motivated individual that is either currently enrolled in a 4-year degree program or has recently graduated within the last two years.

Degree or currently enrolled in classes pertaining to … or related fields.

Required:

  1. US Citizenship or Permanent Resident
  2. Minimum 21 years of age
  3. Current college student or Recent Graduate
  4. A valid US driver’s license with a clean driving record
  5. Ability to pass federal and state background checks

Preferred:

  1. Excellent Oral and written communication skills
  2. Ability to function independently and as a team member
  3. Dedicated work ethic and professionalism
  4. Passion for learning and developing new career skills
  5. Understanding of the various state and federal land management agencies in the area
