Cadastral Survey Internship – BLM Color Country District

Description:

THIS INTERNSHIP IS BASED AT THE BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT (BLM) COLOR COUNTRY DISTRICT OFFICE

Assist Cadastral Surveyor in the measurement or determination of distances, elevations, areas, angles, land boundaries, and other features of the earth’s surface. Assist Cadastral Surveyor in setting survey monuments; this requires digging holes with shovels and rock bars for prolonged periods. Duties frequently include physically demanding tasks such as prolonged walking with heavy packs of instruments and equipment, clearing timber and undergrowth, driving ATVs in rugged terrain, and travelling by 4×4 vehicles in remote areas. This internship will primarily focus on the field aspects of conducting official surveys and resurveys of the Public Land Survey System.

Qualifications:

Consideration will be given to applicants that have:

  1. Good communication and interpersonal skills
  2. Experience working in remote outdoor settings for prolonged periods of time
  3. Experience operating ATVs

 

Applicants who possess these skills and who are pursuing a degree in fields related to Land Surveying/Geomatics will be given greatest consideration.

ALL IIC INTERNSHIPS ARE REQUIRED TO BE TIED TO THE EARNING OF AN ACADEMIC CREDIT. Credits can be EDGE projects, departmental internships, cooperative education, practicums, assignments, research, etc.
