Archaeological Tech – BLM Kanab / GSENM

Location: BLM Kanab Field Office

THIS INTERNSHIP IS LOCATED AT THE GRAND STAIRCASE-ESCALANTE NATIONAL MONUMENT FOR THE BLM. BASED OUT OF THE BLM KANAB FIELD OFFICE.

Description:

The Intern selected for this position will have a variety of opportunities to participate in inventorying, monitoring, and the assessments of historic and prehistoric cultural resource sites, historic structure stabilization, site recording and documentation, public education and interpretation, and a variety of other tasks associated with the operation of a federal cultural resources program.  This may include cross-training with other disciplines to provide the intern with experience in how a cultural resource program and archaeologists interact with programs such as recreation, wildlife, range, and paleontology.  The intern will also be involved with electronic and physical records keeping, updating, and data entry in a variety of formats.  Interns will be working with a wide variety of natural resource, cultural resource, and Government employees. This position will require working outdoors and will involve relatively strenuous hiking, and may require work on the weekends and limited overnight camping.

Qualifications:

Some experience in one or all of the following is helpful but not necessary to apply for the internship position: anthropology/archaeology, natural resource management, biology, physical science, or botany. Must have valid driver’s license. A security check is required upon selection.

Weekly Work Schedule: 40 hours per week, Mid May – End of August

Work Environment: Intern will be exposed to a variety of weather conditions (temperatures 45 – 105+ degrees).

Living Conditions: Must provide own living quarters. Kanab is a rural community with limited services available.
