Position Description: Public Affairs Intern
Hourly Rate: $15.31/hr; 20- 29 hrs/wk.

The Women in Wildland Fire program on the Dixie National Forest is a new program promoting workforce diversity in wildland fire and aviation management.
The duties of the internship may include a variety of tasks:
Additionally, other duties will include working with the Women in Wildland Fire program to develop marketing and branding materials for recruitment and retention purposes. The intern will work with the forest Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and the Women in Wildland Fire (WIWF) Grant Lead to develop a communications framework and materials for public outreach. The intern will also assist the PAO with routine dissemination of public information and help with ongoing special projects. The work can be mentally challenging and demands creativity and innovation regarding public information. The intern may be expected to visit field sites to gather information on current forest activities and speak to employees and public to gather information. The duration of commitment for this position is approximately 6 weeks between approximately November 30, 2015 to January 9, 2016, with negotiation on dates and possible extension. Work shifts can consist of, but are not limited to, 8 hours days 3-5 days a week (as allowed by the IIC policy). This position will require hard work, devotion, working with the public and a good attitude that will be rewarded with spectacular views, great recreation and valuable work experience.
The Dixie National Forest is the largest national forest in Utah, occupying almost two million acres, and stretches for about 170 miles east to west, straddling the divide between the Great Basin and the Colorado River. (www.fs.fed.us/dxnf/dixie.html).
Recreation activities on the Dixie National Forest range from hiking alpine mountains and slot canyons, to mountain biking slick rock and single track trails, to riding all-terrain vehicles along the Great Western Trial. The Dixie National Forest receives a lot of recreation use by visitors of the three surrounding national parks and one national monument: Zion, Bryce, and Capitol Reef National Parks, and Grand Staircase Escalante National Monument. Both Zion and Bryce Canyon National Parks are within an hour and a half drive.
